Castaway Bed wasn't a redesign. It was the creation of an entirely new brand and product category
Introducing a motorized split king bed with a hidden center mattress meant educating customers while earning their trust. Every interaction, from the first scroll to checkout, had to answer questions before they were asked and make a completely unfamiliar product feel intuitive, premium, and worth the investment.
Selling what people have never seen
Launching a new product is difficult. Launching a product that creates its own category is even harder.
Without an existing market, customers had no point of reference. They needed to understand how the bed works, why it exists, how it moves, how safe it is, and whether a premium price matched the value.
The website couldn't simply showcase the product. It had to become the salesperson.

Building a luxury brand from the ground up
Every aspect of Castaway Bed was created from scratch, beginning with the brand itself.
We developed the visual identity, messaging, photography direction, and website experience around one goal: making an innovative product feel timeless and trustworthy. Clean typography, generous spacing, refined imagery, and restrained animation create an experience that reflects the quality of the product itself.
Rather than overwhelming visitors with features, the design focuses on confidence, letting the craftsmanship, engineering, and movement of the bed tell the story.
Educating without overwhelming
For a product this unique, education became one of the most important parts of the buying journey. The website was designed to answer questions naturally through motion, interactive demonstrations, and clear visual storytelling. Custom animations illustrate the push-to-operate switch, showing exactly how the bed opens, closes, and operates while reinforcing its safety features.
Throughout the experience we highlighted the details that matter most to luxury buyers, including made-to-order manufacturing, complimentary white glove delivery, premium construction, and thoughtful engineering. By the time customers reach checkout, they understand not just what the product is, but why it exists.
Modern ecommerce without unnecessary complexity
Castaway Bed was built on Shopify using a performance-first approach. We relied on native Shopify functionality wherever possible, minimizing third-party apps to improve speed, reliability, and long-term scalability.
Klaviyo powers lifecycle email marketing, while custom functionality delivers a premium shopping experience without sacrificing performance. The result is a storefront that is fast, flexible, and designed to grow alongside the business.
